I have no idea what to think in terms of animation anymore. Maybe I should give up and become a ballerina like I wanted to.
His blog is like one of those ancient temples in an Indiana Jones movie, full of marvellous unbelieveable treasure, but it's frought with PERIL! You might not make it out with your hats intact!
I want to make cartoony cartoons now. It's like, what did I even want to make before? Richard Williams-esque hoity toighty people on paper? BUT NOW I FEEL BAD DOWNING RICHARD WILLIAMS. ARRRGH.
He raises so many good points! But he DRIVES YOU NUTS TRYING TO GET THEM ACROSS. The sheer argumentative nature of how he types is enough to make you immediately bite back saying "NO UR RONG". Only he isn't, goddammit.I reopened my R&S DVDs the other day, just to notice the animation after he pointed out drawings from "Big House Blues". Were there alway those extreme poses changing and morphing constantly? More importantly, why has no cartoon tried to do it since? God, Disney looks like a desaturated business man *coffcoff* in contrast! How'd I not notice this before?
So that's what I'd really like to do. Not a Spumco rip-off, but just something with fun posing constantly shifting to employ a million different specific (oooh, now I'm talkin' Kricfalusian!) emotions in a single sentence. OOOH, BUT I LIKE THE WILLIAMS SCHOOL OF MOTION TOO. CONFLICTION.
One thing he's convinced me of, though, is that I'm really not big on going to a Network for getting something of mine done because:
1)Korean/Flash animation not handled by myself (unless it could be swung around to make that it was)
2)Kids don't even like cartoons anymore. Just ask "CN REAL".
3) IF EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS WERE HITLER, THEN CARTOONS ARE THE JEWS. Not that I know personally, but animation seems to be a pretty cut-throat business. Even just from hanging around at the internship (GLOAT GLOAT), thar be a lot of bitchiness. You were warned.
Although, why anyone would care about all that, I dunno.
Speaking of network foul-ups, have you seen this totally reassuring article by Mark Von Orman? It's been pointed out that the opinions of him and Carl Greenblatt differ greatly on the issue, keeping in mind the fact that the former's show is still on the air, and he didn't have to fire all of his friends.. Not that I'm saying Mark's a liar. I just think that the idea CN would decide to move away from live action/reality shows when they were popular enough to be considered in the first place is pretty naive. But if we're naive enough to become adults loving cartoons, I guess we're naive enough to swallow anything,. THE DRAMA IS FUN TO WATCH UNFOLD, REGARDLESS.
Also going to Amsterdam in August. Red-light district, here I come. (PUN!)
EDIT: Hey, anyone else seeing ads all over dA for Scientology? Since Wikipedia broke up with them, I guess they must've chosen to pick up deviants on the rebound.
